Generation of 3D scene from Real-World Data
This project will involve populating a POSTGIS 2.0 database with data from Open Street Maps (OSM). Spatial queries will be performed on the database to extract relevant building information. Each building will then be represented as a 3D polygon and visualized using OSG Earth. Through this project, the student will be introduced to spatial databases, which form the foundation of many map and location-based services in the Internet today.
Tasks:
- Populate geospatial data into the database
- Install editor for geospatial data for editing
- Perform queries, filtering based on rectangular area
- Copy the resultset into internal data structure for processing
- Creation of 3D-polygon shapes in OSG Earth
- Calculation of occlusion area
