Spatial Database for Mission Planning

Generation of 3D scene from Real-World Data

This project will involve populating a POSTGIS 2.0 database with data from Open Street Maps (OSM). Spatial queries will be performed on the database to extract relevant building information. Each building will then be represented as a 3D polygon and visualized using OSG Earth. Through this project, the student will be introduced to spatial databases, which form the foundation of many map and location-based services in the Internet today.

Tasks:

  1. Populate geospatial data into the database
  2. Install editor for geospatial data for editing
  3. Perform queries, filtering based on rectangular area
  4. Copy the resultset into internal data structure for processing
  5. Creation of 3D-polygon shapes in OSG Earth
  6. Calculation of occlusion area
